How to become an insurance agent in Georgia:

Pre-exam Education

Pre-exam education is not required, but it is strongly recommended so that you can pass the exam(s) the first time and avoid additional exam fees. These course can be done online or in-person.

License Exam

The State of Utah uses the company, PSI, to administer their exam(s).  Life, Accident, and Health are together on one exam for $74.  Then Property and Casualty is grouped together for another exam for $74.  Then there is an option to do each aspect separately except Accident and Health which are put together on one exam, for $59. Combined, there are a total of 100 questions and there is a time limit of 150 minutes to complete the exams.  The pass score is 70%.

License Application

It is suggested that the license application be completed at the kiosk in the testing facility possibly directly after a passing confirmation has been issued.  Otherwise, it can be done online with an application fee of $75.  Then if additional lines of authority need to be added at a later date, then there is an amendment fee of $25.  Once the application is approved it takes 5-10 business days to issue the license.  An email is sent to confirm the license status.

License Renewal

The license expires every 2 years on the last day of the agent’s birth month.  The state of Utah requires 24 hours of continuing education where 3 of those hours has to be done in an Ethics course and 12 of the hours has to be done in a classroom.  You can initiate the renewal process within 90 days before the license expiration date.  The renewal can only be done online with a fee of $75.
